Family History & Historical Research

Welcome to Treow Roots Research.

Based in London, I offer family history and historical research services to those looking to build a family tree, explore the lives of their ancestors, and uncover records buried deep in archives.

Family Trees

I use a wide range of genealogical and historical sources to build family trees and add colour and context to the lives of ancestors. I can pursue particular family lines, dig deeper into individual stories, and help to verify those family legends passed down through generations.

Hit a brick wall with your own research? I can help you find the breakthrough. I am based in London and have access to major archives including the British Library, the National Archives, the London Archives, and a whole range of museums and heritage organisations with unique record collections that cannot be found online.

Archival Research

I am available for historical research on documentaries and heritage projects, having worked for major UK and US broadcasters, and on popular TV series including Who Do You Think You Are? and My Grandparents' War.

Media Projects

Past projects and clients include:

  • “Alex is a gifted historical researcher. She is great to work with, both easy going and helpful in defining research needs.

Her results have been brilliant in forward and backward tracing through ancestry pathways.

But equally as important, in delving into multiple archives that can enrich many a life story, including newspaper, Court, Parish, parliamentary, military, health and other sources.”

    Philip Pearson

  • “I used this website as I was very interested in tracing my family history.

I found Alex, who runs this service, to be very efficient and thorough in her research. Alex is very approachable and customer friendly. She was always willing to explain her research and answer any queries that I had.

It was a wonderful eye-opener to discover what my ancestors were like and what they did.

Thank you, Alex, for providing a wonderful service.”

    Peter Oxbrow

  • “I contacted Alex to request some research on my maternal line, and was amazed when she unearthed some fascinating family history that I had no idea about - I come from a line of highly skilled gunmakers who lived and worked in Birmingham in the 19th Century!

Alex’s approach to this research was professional, thorough and friendly at all times and she went the extra mile to give me extra detail, uncovering an amazing side to my family history that I had no idea about previously!”

    D. Palmer

  • “Alex was commissioned to do a history of the 17th century house I was born & brought up in as an original gift for my birthday!

She has produced a fascinating history of the people and their respective trades, who have lived and died in the property and surrounds, made even more interesting due to it being situated in the Main Street of a small riverside  town.

Her knowledge of how and where to source material is immeasurable.
I would highly recommend using Alex.”
